Your 100% fulfilling career doesn’t exist

What is the paradox of a fulfilling career?

It is to accept that nothing will fulfill you 100% because our needs and wants change.

It is to accept that you will not like 100% of the work in your career.

Yet, you don’t give up doing what you can to chart a fulfilling career.

In a fulfilling life, there will still be suffering.

Yet, you are able to see it, hold it, and experience joy amidst that suffering.

The “ultimate” fulfilling career with no suffering doesn’t exist.

A fulfilling career can be one that is not super easy, yet it gives you meaning and joy which is worth the pain.

Stop chasing only the “feel good” factor.

It may trick you into constantly wondering if there’s something “better” out there, one that fits all your needs.

It may result in you constantly focusing on the grass on the other side which is always greener.

Instead, anchor on your values, strengths, and interests.

I pursue my coaching business not because it’s fun and comfortable.

It is painful to have a pay cut (at least for now)

It is painful to feel so insecure about this budding new venture.

It is uncomfortable to keep stepping up and practicing talking about my service (it’s one thing to market and sell diapers of a multi-national company. It’s a completely different story to market and sell your own services)

Yet, my time spent with clients, journeying with them, and witnessing their growth is so rewarding that I am willing to go through this “pain”

This work resonates so deeply with my values of compassion, growth, contribution, and acceptance.

It also gives me an avenue to apply my strength in connecting, being empathetic, and strategic thinking.

The area of personal growth and self-acceptance continue to engage me deeply, an area that I continuously invest time, money, and effort to learn.

These are the elements that make me say “yes” when others ask if I have a fulfilling career.

The sacrifices I have to go through pale in comparison to the satisfaction I derive from my work.

So, it’s not all rainbows and unicorns, yet it’s fulfilling.

Never mistake fulfillment for ecstatic joy.

I don’t wish that you are happy all the time – I wish that you have the wisdom, strength, and awareness to chart a fulfilling life and career.

Do you know what are your values, strengths and interests?

Instead of just going through life as if being pushed by a current, design your meaningful career and life using these as your guide.

What is life if it’s not meaningful to you?
